Remember Kevin Bacon wearing a skin-tight white T-shirt in the 1984 movie Footloose? Well, we do, and we think LGBTQ cruise travelers will be interested to know that you can feed your Kevin Bacon fantasies aboard Norwegian Joy. Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that a the Broadway adaptation of Footloose will be featured when Norwegian Joy sails the Alaska season beginning in May 2019.
“We are very excited to showcase Footloose, a feel-good, positive show that encourages people to embrace new ideas, stand up for what they believe in and dance their hearts out,” said Norwegian Cruise Line President and CEO Andy Stuart. “We’re certain it will have guests ‘kicking off their Sunday shoes’ as they enjoy their cruise vacation aboard Norwegian Joy…”
In other news, Joy isn’t the the only ship that seems to be changing itineraries away from Asia and toward more traditional ports. The cruise lines seem to have discovered that breaking into that market hasn’t been as easy as they anticipated. For her new role outside Asia, Joy will get a $50 million refurbishment to become something like a twin sister to Bliss. Her features provided specifically for the Asian market will be adapted to western tastes. According to the Norwegian website, Joy’s refurb will “bring her designs and offerings to be nearly identical to those of Norwegian Bliss.
We had a great time aboard Norwegian Bliss on our first MMOB gay group cruise, and we think it’s wonderful to hear that Joy will become more like her sister! If you’re interested in more information contact MMOB travel expert Adam.
